Yes cauliflower is gr8 to thicken soups. this particular soup it's being used as cauliflower for its own flavor but in regular vegetable soups I always use cauliflower as a thickener. the only difference is the smell you will feel the smell of the cauliflower but the taste is fairly similar.

saw great recipe in the shopper family room
two toned broccoli cauliflower soup
2 onions
3 zucchini (peeled)
1 28 oz bag of cauliflower
1 28 oz bag of broccoli
3 cups of water
salt and pepper to taste
saute onions add zucchini and saute abt 15 min. add cauliflower and 1 cup of water, cook covered for 30 min blend
set aside 2/3 of soup to use as cauliflower soup
add the bag of broccoli and 2 cups water to the remaining soup cook covered for 45 min and blend
you get two soup with only 1 mess :)
